Tickford Racing is an elite team in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship. The team races four Ford Mustang entries and is responsible for the design, manufacture, build and maintenance of each of its race cars. The team is housed in a large bespoke facility based in Melbourne’s outer northern suburbs.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Engineer whose primary functions will include managing vehicle data both trackside and in an office environment, electrical systems maintenance, drawing updates for the design office and maintaining BOM along, design engineering responsibilities along with project engineering as part of an ongoing R & D program.

Responsibilities include however are not limited to:

  • • Component and assembly design
  • • Making updates to existing designs
  • • Maintaining vehicle BOM
  • • Liaising with production and race engineering staff to ensure designs are fit for use within time constraints
  • • Research and development / Project Engineering
  • • Develop new methods of investigating various parameters on car and communicating with supplies and tech partners as required
  • • Assisting with testing car components
  • • Produce technical bulletins and technical reports
  • • Data analysis / Race engineering support
  • • Responsible for data acquisition and assist the race engineers in various aspects of running the race car at races and tests including fuel calculations, car weight and assistance with strategy
  • • Pre and post-race analysis and reporting. Including strategy & pit stop analysis
  • • Maintain the data analysis, telemetry & dash display systems when at the race track & ensure correct calibration & function of data sensors.
  • • Produce detailed post event summaries to contribute to development direction and provide information for repeat visits to that event
  • • Electrical systems maintenance
  • • Ensure all sensors and car systems are prepared and checked prior to each race or event
  • • Fault diagnosis and running repairs of wiring looms and car systems
  • • Attend race meets and test days as required

To be considered successful for this position, candidates must obtain:

  • • Degree level qualifications in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or similar
  • • Understanding of motorsport design practices and techniques
  • • Excellent problem solving ability
  • • Good communication skills
  • • Be able to commit to travel to racing events required
