Motorsport Fabricator – Apprentice

The Role:

Reporting to the Team Manager, as a member of Team 18, your main responsibility is assisting in the production of a variety of components and assemblies for the race vehicles; both at the workshop located at Mt Waverley and travelling with the Team 18 crew to all V8 Super Car Championship races around Australia. 

 Main responsibilities for the role would include but are not limited to:

  • Working with various materials including aluminium, stainless steel, chrome moly and mild steel
  • Assist with maintaining the race team vehicle chassis, suspension and cooling systems components and assemblies
  • Carrying out allocated and scheduled work in accordance with quality standard
  • Assist with mechanical maintenance and repair of racing car
  • Working with the team to deliver constant improvements to the racing car
  • Potentially assist with tyre technician / 3rd mechanic tasks as required due to demands of schedule at given periods
  • Along with the mechanical team, ensure the condition and presentation of the workshop on site and at race meets is maintained to Team 18 standards
  • Be responsible for the condition and security of Team 18 tools, plant and setup manuals and worksheets
  • Maintaining neat and tidy appearance, always wearing the Team 18 uniform, demonstrating your professional attitude at all times

The Right Person for the Role:

The successful candidate must be an individual possessing good mechanical knowledge and who embraces challenges and responsibility with enthusiasm and energy. You enjoy a being part of a successful team, pride yourself on your professional approach and possess a positive attitude. 

  • Specifically you display the following: 
  • Extremely competent in both TIG and MIG welding 
  • Competence in the use of manual mill and lathe machinery an advantage  
  • Previous experience as a sheet metal worker/fabricator apprentice in a Motorsport environment is desirable 
  • Strong capability to problem solve efficiently 
  •  Ability to work alone and successfully with a team 
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment and under pressure
